EDC Organization Tips: Tame Your Gear & Maximize Space

EDC Organization Tips: Tame Your Gear & Maximize Space

Everyday Carry (EDC) is about preparedness, efficiency, and having the right tools readily available. But a disorganized EDC setup can be counterproductive, turning a potential advantage into a frustrating scramble. Effective EDC organization isn't just about aesthetics; it's about accessibility, comfort, and reliability. This guide provides practical EDC organization tips to help you optimize your carry.

Assess and Prioritize Your Essentials

The first step to better EDC organization is a critical review. What do you actually need on a daily basis? What items are rarely, if ever, used?

  • Take Inventory: Empty your pockets, bag, or organizing system. Lay everything out and take stock.
  • Identify Usage: For each item, honestly assess how frequently it's used. Be ruthless!
  • Eliminate Redundancy: Are you carrying multiple tools that serve a similar purpose? Choose the most versatile or reliable.
  • Prioritize Needs: Rank your items based on essential daily functions (e.g., communication, navigation, first aid)

Once you've identified your essentials, you can start building an organized system.

Optimize Your Pocket Carry

Pocket carry is the foundation of many EDC setups. Here's how to optimize it:

  • Designated Pockets: Assign specific pockets to specific items. Consistency creates muscle memory and quicker access.
  • Pocket Organizers: Consider small pocket organizers for smaller items like coins, batteries, or keys. This keeps things separated and prevents jumbling.
  • Clip It: Utilize pocket clips on items like knives, lights, or multi-tools to secure them and prevent them from shifting around.
  • Comfort is Key: Avoid overloading any single pocket. Distribute weight evenly for a more comfortable carry.

Utilize Dedicated EDC Storage Solutions

For those who carry larger EDC loads, dedicated storage solutions are essential. Consider these options:

  • EDC Bags: Choose a bag with internal organization features like dividers, pockets, and webbing.
  • Pouches & Cases: Small pouches and cases can be used to organize specific categories of items, such as electronics or first-aid supplies. These can then be stored within a larger bag or compartment.
  • Desk Organizers: For your at-home or office EDC, use desk organizers to keep items readily available and prevent clutter.

Embrace 3D Printed Organizers

3D printed organizers are an increasingly popular solution for EDC enthusiasts. Their modularity and customizability make them incredibly versatile.

  • Custom Fit: Design or purchase 3D printed inserts for bags or containers to perfectly fit specific tools.
  • Modular Design: Combine different modules to create a tailored organization system.
  • Maximize Space: Efficiently utilize space within containers by stacking or angling items with 3D printed solutions.

At Bunker Bullets, we offer a wide range of 3D printed organizers designed to help you maximize your EDC gear's potential. From cases to dividers, we are constantly adding new items to streamline your preparedness.

Don't Forget About Enhancements

Accessories can improve both the lifespan and feel of your items, for example, a grip sleeve can add comfort to your grip and help prevent wear and tear.

Regular Maintenance and Purges

Organization is an ongoing process, not a one-time event.

  • Regular Cleaning: Clean your EDC items and storage solutions regularly to remove dirt, dust, and debris.
  • Periodic Purges: Re-evaluate your EDC contents every few months. Are you still carrying items you don't need? Are there new tools you should consider adding?
  • Repack Strategically: When repacking your EDC, consider the order in which you're likely to need items. Place frequently used items in easily accessible locations.

By following these EDC organization tips, you can transform your carry from a cluttered mess into a well-oiled machine. This increased efficiency will make you more prepared and confident in any situation.
